On a map, the towns of Westhampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton and Easthampton are located in this order, along a line that is 75 kilometres long. The distance from Westhampton to Southampton is the same as that from Bridgehampton to Easthampton, and 1/3 of that from Southampton to Bridgehampton. How far is it from Westhampton to Southampton?
Please explain working out. Answer is 15 kms. I thought distance from Southampton to Bridgehampton was 1/3 of distance from Westhampton to Southampton (S to B= 1/3 × W to S). Please explain when my method would be correct and when the actual answer of this question would be correct.

You are pretty wrong considering what you have said is Westhampton to Southampton is 15km, then bridgehampton to easthampton is 15km long as well and the km between S and b would 5.This from what you have said not me, YOUR information.15+15+5=35km. As since im not so stupid to know that 35km is not the same as 75km.
