In Tim's last 5 games here's the number of three-point field goals scored per game.
9
6
0
9
3
How many three-point field goals would Tim have to kick in the next game to bring his average (arithmetic mean) to six points per game?
I just need to be walked through how you would solve this or a similar problem.

6 points per game for 6 games is 36 points total
So, how many points shy is he after 5 games?
Divide that by 3 to find the number of goals needed.
Actually, I suspect a typo.

this question is not a typo people get confused because you have to understand that when every time he scores in the game he scored once. so that means 3 points = 1 successful score. so instead of adding 9+6+0+9+3 / 5 instead add 3+2+0+3+1/5(find the mean like usual) = 9/5 => 1.8 so that translates to him scoring (multiply 1.8*3=5.4) 5.4 points per game. so he needs to score 3 times next game (scoring 3 times next game means he scored 9 points) so if he scores 3 times next game it will make is average/mean score rise to 6 points.

I think I have a better and easier to understand than yours.
We could add all of his points scored, we would get 27 points scored. We trying to calculate the mean for 6 points per game which is 6 games. So 6x6=36. Then, 36-27 = 9 which is the points he needs to make for the 6th game, which equivalent to 3 three-point field goals (aka hattrick)
