If it is 2*1(2*(2a*2) then since the bases are the same we can add the exponets
1+2a*2
which does not simplify anymore.

Maybe you meant
2(a*2a^2) = 2(2a^3) = 4a^3
2(a*2a^2) = 2(2a^3) = 4a^3
