The regional manager of a chain of department stores created the following stem-and-leaf plot showing the number of pairs of boots at each of the stores:

I 0 I
I 1 I 7 8
I 2 I 0 5 8
I 3 I 4 4 7 8
I 4 I 0
I 5 I
I 6 I

Key: 1 I 7 = 17 pairs of boots

How many department stores have more than 60 pairs of boots?

Can someone help me? I don't even know what a stem and leaf plot is!

The answer is 0. I was confused at first when it said that 7=17 and I thought that I had to do some weird subtracting and stuff to get what 4 was and the rest but apparently you only use 7 as 17 then just add the other numbers to 17 lol I don't know if that made any sense but yeaaa

The answer is 10 because The left column of the stem and leaf plot represents the tens place; each number on the right side represents the ones place for the number of pairs of boots at a department store.

We can combine the tens and ones places and write out the number of pairs of boots at each department store on the right:

Now we know the number of pairs of boots at the different department stores:
17, 181, 20, 25, 28, 34, 34, 37, 38, and 40

There are 10 department stores that match our question.
