Get a common denominator, which for 5 and 4 would be 20. Then change -4/5 to -?/20. That will be -16 (I did that saying 20/5=4 and 4 x -4 = -16). Change -3/4 to -?/20 and that is -15/20.
Now we have -16/20 -15/20 and we add the numerators to get -31 and that is over 20 so the answer is -31/20. I don't know if you can leave the fraction as -31/20 or if you teacher wants you to change that to -1&11/20.
