x is just a place holder. Replace it with whatever value you like. Hard to parse your math, but if it's
f(x) = x * (-1)^x
then
f(3) = 3(-1)^3 = 3(-1) = -3
f(0) = 3(-1)^0 = 3(1) = 3
f(-1) = 3(-1)^-1 = 3/(-1)^1 = 3/-1 = -3
For any integer value of x, f(x) will be 3 or -3
