5x + 2 = 3x + 4(2x - 1)
get rid of the parentheses:
5x + 2 = 3x + 8x - 4
get all the x stuff on the left:
5x - 11x = -4 - 2
collect like terms
-6x = -6
divide by the x coefficient (-6):
x = 1
get rid of the parentheses:
5x + 2 = 3x + 8x - 4
get all the x stuff on the left:
5x - 11x = -4 - 2
collect like terms
-6x = -6
divide by the x coefficient (-6):
x = 1
