There are 16m of ribbon to be cut into pieces. Each piece , of 8/12 in length , will be given to a girl participant of the school's cheering squad. How many girls will be given a piece of ribbon?

8/12 = 2/3
That means that for each 2 meters of ribbon, 3 girls get a piece.
Since 16 = 2*8, 3*8=24 girls will get a piece.
Or, 16/(2/3) = 16 * 3/2 = 24
