Is it a normal practice for a school to cancel classes during the day due to weather, yet still hold night time extracurricular activities as originally scheduled? This would be for tomorrow Friday.

No. That is unusual. If school is closed during the day, evening events are also cancelled.

Not in the case of Riverdale 100 Port Byron, Illinois. I just saw it on the bottom of the TV screen during a local newscast.
