Show the reaction of 1-naphthylamine hydrochloride with sodium hydroxide using structural formulas. Indicate which layer (aqueous or organic) each component in the reaction will mainly reside in (for both products and reactants).

Structures can't be drawn on the boards. But you can easily draw this with pen and paper. Draw the 1-naphthylamine compound and to the Ar-NH2 show with HCl to form Ar-NH3Cl. So this is a salt (this is the hydrochloride of the original amine). With NaOH, just pull the HCl off and make NaCl and H2O. The salt will be soluble in water as will the NaOH. The amine resulting from the addition of NaOH will be soluble in the organic layer.
