In a gear train, 4% of the power is lost in friction. If the power left after the loss of friction is 60 hp, how much power is lost?

%C = (Vf - Vi)/(Vi)
(4%)(Vi) = 60 - Vi
.04Vi + Vi = 60
1.04Vi = 60
Vi = 60/1.04
Vi = 57.69

.96 Vi = 60
Vi = 62.5
so, the loss was 2.5 hp
