This is what I have so far, but it isn't enough.
When Mexico claimed the Nueces River as the northeastern border, the U.S claimed the Rio Grande River. On April 25, 1846, the U.S and Mexico met at the Rio Grande River. When they met, Mexico opened fire at the U.S. The Mexican-American War, has started.
Mexican leader Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna planned the war because of the U.S’s way of Economics, Westward Expansion, Manifest Destiny, and most of all, Slavery. Mexico believed that the U.S was doing everything wrong and didn’t like their way of doing things. Including slavery. Mexico didn’t like how the United States had slavery. They were strongly against it. America actually wanted more slave states, so that is another reason on why he insisted for a war.
As a result, Mexico surrendered to the United States and they signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which was written by Major General Scott Winfield, on February 2nd, 1848. The treaty said that Mexico got the land of Texas, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Also, the casualties of Mexico were 5,000 people killed in the battle. On the U.S side, 1,733 were killed, and 4,152 were wounded.
