A bag contains 10 white golf balls and 6 striped golf balls. A golfer wants to add 112 golf balls to the bag. He wants the ratio of white to striped golf balls to remain the same. How many of each should he add?

adds 112 to 16 to make 128
w = 10 + x
s = 6 + 112 - x so x = 118 - s
w + s = 128
w/s = 10/6 = 5/3 so w = 5 s/3
========================= now start
5 s/3 = 10 + x but x = 118 - s
5 s/3 = 10 +118 - s
8 s/3 = 128
s = 48
==============
now
total of 48 stripers so added 48 - 6 = 42 stripers
then
w = 5 s/3 = 80
so added 80 - 10 = 70 white ones added
sue enough 70/42 is 5/3 :)
