Shelby has a new prescription for an albuterol inhaler. The directions say to use 1-2 inhalations every 4-6 hours as needed. The inhaler you dispense says that it provides 200 doses. What is the minimum number of days the albuterol inhaler would last for Shelby?

My answer:

25 days

But the answer key states 16 days.

So I think the question meant to ask the maximum days, not the minimum days?

Actually... I think I misinterpret the question.....

So if it is asking for the minimum number of days, it would mean that Shelby would have to use it often...

So 24/4 = 6 times daily

6 x 2 inhalations = 12

200/12 = 16 days...

Is my thought process/ interpretation correct?

24/4 = 6 times a day
2 * 6 = 12 dosages a day
200/ 12 = 16.7 days

Yes, I agree.
So if it asks for the max number of days...

Is the answer 50 days?
Answered by Damon
for minimum 2 inhale every 4 hours
which is one inhale every 2 hours or 12 inhales/day
12 inhales/day * x days = 200 inhales
x = 16.6 so 16 days and a fraction

correct, you would use the shortest time period with the highest dosage, which is what you did.

btw, what do you think would be the maximum number of days?
Answered by Ms. Sue
Maximum number?
1 dose every 6 hours = 4 doses a day
200 / 4 = 50 days.
