Well I put d originally on my test at school and they said it was wrong. Other kids said they answered b and they said that was wrong. So my second guess was c and you say that is wrong. The answer isn't A is it? If so I struggle even more with that..

Severity is the quality of being harsh. Mrs. Moran is known for the severity of her punishments.
I don't know why "they" said d was wrong. However, we see a lot of errors coming from online schools.

Yes. This has been a downer for you. You got the question right in the first place but you've been given the run-around -- apparently by an inept "teacher."

To determine the meaning of the word "severity" based on the definition of "severe" and your knowledge of the Latin suffix "-ity," we can break it down as follows:
The word "severe" means "harsh." The Latin suffix "-ity" is used to form abstract nouns that denote a quality, state, or condition. Therefore, combining "severe" and "-ity," we can infer that the meaning of "severity" is related to the quality, state, or condition of being harsh.
Therefore, the correct answer is:
D) the quality of being harsh.
