"simultaneous equation" would be overkill here, just do some arithmetic
actual cost = 50-10.50 = $39.50
less the fixed $8 cost = 31.50
number of days = 31.50/4.50 = 7
actual cost = 50-10.50 = $39.50

number of days = 31.50/4.50 = 7

Cost = 4.5x + 8.
50-10.5 = 4.5x + 8.
X = 7 days.
