Hi, I really need help on this question, I'm stuck.

Question

Lake View Middle School is having elections for Class President. Shawn has received a certain amount of votes. April has 6 more votes than Shawn, and David has 6 times as many votes as April. Michael received 1/2 the amount of votes as David.

-Write an algebraic expression that represents the amount of votes each person has received.

-If a total of 280 people voted, how many votes did each person receive and who would win the election?

-If a total of 566 people voted, how many votes did each person receive and who would win the election?

Start with Shawn votes as S.
Then april votes= S+6,
and so on.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong:

David has 6 times as many votes as April:
6(S+6)

Is that right?

Michael received 1/2 the amount of votes as David:
I really don't understand how to do this one....

Michael =1/2 david or 1/2*6(S+6)

April= s+6=280
-6=6
s=274
David= 6(s+6)=280
6s+36=280
-36=36
6s=244
s=40.6
Michael= 1/2*6(s+6)=280
3(s+6)=280
3s+18=280
-18= 18
3s= 262
s=87.3
Is this right? I'm really confused..
