    let the numerator be x
let the denominator be x+6
the fraction was x/(x+6)
new numerator = x-2
new denominator = x+10
(x-2)/(x+10) = 1/5
cross-mutiply:
5x - 10 = x+10
4x = 20
x = 5
so the original fraction was 5/11
