In a steady flow system crude oil of density 1200 kgm-3 flows at the rate of 275kg/min through a horizontal pipeline of varying cross-sectionional areas 0.068 and 0.083m2 respectively. Determine the absolute pressure between X and Y.

(1/2) rho v^2 + p = constant
Q = volume flow rate = 275 kg/min * 1min/60 s * 1 m^3 / 1200 kg = 0.00382 m^3/second
so
v skinny pipe = 0.00382 / .068 = 0.0562 m/s
v fat pipe = 0.00382 / 0.083 = 0.0460 m/s
p fat pipe - p skinny pipe = (1/2)*1200 *(.0562^2 - .0460^2) = 600*0.00104
=.625 Pascals
