The sum of two numbers is 10. Twice the larger number plus the smaller number is 8.
x +y = 10 and x +2y = 8
I would multiply the second equation by =- 1 then add it to the first equation
x + y = 10
-x - 2y = - 8
=========
- 1y = 2 and solve for y then sub it back into an original and solve for x.
