There was and is a myth amongst many cultures that one can have separate but equal facilities (schools for colored, whites; schools for females, males; restrooms or tables for females, males, or colored, white, officer, enlisted). But this has been proven to be a myth. Separate is inherently unequal. But the myth persists, and governs many cultures. IT allows for segregation and discrimination whilst giving a clear conscience to the discriminators. Executive lunchrooms, bathrooms is another extension of this...everybody working ought to have clean restrooms.
