(2x + 3)(x - 1) > 0
which tells me that the x-intercepts of the parabola
y = 2x^2 + x - 3 are -3/2 and 1 and it opens upwards.

That is a parabola
for very large |x| , y is +
so it opens up (holds water)
so find the roots and any x< the lower one or > the upper one satisfies the condition
2 x^2 + x - 3 = 0
(2x-3)(x+1) = 0
any x < -1 is good
any x > 3/2 is good
in between , no good
