D. the real issues is what does "millions of years ago". Early in Earth's life, there was much more water, but without an atmosphere, estimates are that a quarter of all the water left Earth into space. But that was about 4 billion years ago (4000 million years ago). After the atmosphere formed, the heat was contained, and warm water recondensed, and fell back to Earth. So in recent times, say a few million years, the amount of water on Earth has stayed essentially the same.
