In many plants, leaves and flowers are held above the ground by the stem . Suggest a reason for this.

Well, simply because the plant requires the process of photosynthesis in order to produce glucose. For the flower, that's primarily due to pollination. I hoped this helps. :'D

Plants need sunlight in order to produce glucose and oxygen.Leaves are held above the ground so sunlight and gases could reach them easily.Flowers is the organ of reproduction ,They are held above the ground so insects ,eg bees,flies could get them more easily .

Since the plant depends on this process " Photosynthesis " for making their own food, the leaf must be held aboved the ground , so that Light Energy and Gases can easily reach them . and it is also important for the plant to have flowers at the end of the stem,because pollination system works better at that point than at the lower point ( under the stem).
