Consider the following data:
23 17 20 29 21 14 19 24
Develop and test a hypothesis to determine if the variance is greater than 4. Use the critical value approach and α = 0.05.
So I did my work and the variance I calculated is 18.3593 which is greater than 4. The issue is I don't understand how to do it the way the question is asking. Not sure how to do it

I agree with your concern, since the the variance of the given data set is a determinate value, I do not see a need for hypotheses.
