explain why are two stations not enough to locate an epicenter?

Here is a site that may help. Two seismographs will give you circles from each that intersect at TWO points. You need a third seismograph to remove one of those points. The place where all three circles intersect will be the location of the epicenter. http://www.geo.mtu.edu/UPSeis/locating.html
