Carson spent $15.99 for 2 books and 3 pens. The books cost $4.95 each. The sales tax on the total purchase was $1.22. Carson also used a coupon for $0.50 off his purchase. If each pen had the same cost, how much did each pen cost?

I know for 2 books = $9.90

coupon= .50

sales tax: $1.22

I'm stuck now
Answered by Damon
4.95 * 2 + 3 p + 1.22 - 0.50 =15.99

3 p = 15.99-9.90 -1.22 + 0.50

3 p = 5.37

p = 1.79

There are 2 flowcharts in my book so I wrote all this
2 x $4.95 is the cost of 2 books + Amount of tax is $1.22 - Amount of coupon is $0.50 = Total spent which is $15.99
This is the other flowchart that goes backwards.
$15.99 + 0.50 - $1.22 - $9.90 = $5.37
Then, we divide the cost of 3 pens by 3 to find the cost of each pen
3 / 3 = 1
I am smart hehe ;) You're Welcome
