T is evidently the surface area of a cylinder of radius r and height h.
I guess you want to solve for the height h given the area T
2 pi r h = T - 2 pi r^2
so
h = (T -2 pi r^2)/(2 pi r)
In other words
(total area - top and bottom area) / circumference
