How does Jiskha work?
and is being a jiskha tutor an actual job?

Anyone can post homework questions on Jiskha. It's best to post no more than three or four in any post. Also, we can help students better if they give us an idea what they are thinking about the question. While we may show a student how to solve a problem, we do not generally give answers. We here to help students learn.

Jiskha tutors are mostly retired teachers and professors. We are volunteers and are not paid.
