This is a job for Pythagoras' Theorem. The ladder and the house and the ground form a right triangle.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
a^2 + 4^2 = 24^2
a^2 + 16 = 576
a^2 = 560
a = 23.67
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
a^2 + 4^2 = 24^2
a^2 + 16 = 576
a^2 = 560
a = 23.67

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
a^2 + (6)^2 = (24)^2
a^2 + 36 = 576
a^2 = 540 (576-36=540)
sqrt(a^2) = + or - sqrt(540) (negatives are not solutions in this case)
a = 23.2
Your answer is 23.2 ft.
a^2 + (6)^2 = (24)^2
a^2 + 36 = 576
a^2 = 540 (576-36=540)
sqrt(a^2) = + or - sqrt(540) (negatives are not solutions in this case)
a = 23.2
Your answer is 23.2 ft.
