HOW MANY SMALL SQUARES WITH A SIDE LENGTH OF 1/2INCH WILL FIT INTO A 2 INCH SQUARE?

THE TEACHER SAYS 16

I THINK 8 2 INCH SQUARE WOULD BE:
1INCH * 2 INCH = 2 SQUARES * 4 SQUARES

please help!!!!!

1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2 = 2
So 4 squares will fit into 2 inches.

Area = length times width.

A = 4 * 4
A = 16
