#1A "sum" means add. "product" multiply.
#2C I have no idea how you came up with your answer. If you meant
x/3 = 12
then multiply both sides by 3, since 3/3 = 1. Then you have
x = 36
You did the multiplication, and then added another 3. Why? 39 is the solution to
(x-3)/3 = 12
