How did the temperature change if it increased by 25 % and then decreased by 40% ?

I changed percentages to decimals.

1.25 -.40 = ?

1.00 - ? = ??

Let x be the starting temperature.
y=1.25x
z=y-.4y=1.25x-.4(1.25x)=.75x

So the final temperature is 75% of the original temperature.
