The difference between a number and its reciprocal is 7/12. Find the number.

Let the number be a ,so its reciprocal is (1/a)
Multiplying both sides by 12a we get,
So a - (1/a) = 7/12
12(a^2) - 12 = 7a
12(a^2) - 7a - 12 =0
Now solve for a.
