If the diameter of a circle P is 40 percent of the diameter of circle Q, then the area of circle P is what percentage of the area of circle Q?

dP = diameter of circle P

dQ = diameter of circle Q

AP = area of circle P

AQ = area of circle Q


40% = 40 / 100 = 0.4


dP = 0.4 dQ


Area of circle = d² ∙ π /4


AQ = dQ² ∙ π /4


AP = dP² ∙ π /4

AP = ( 0.4 dQ )² ∙ π /4

AP = 0.16 dQ²∙ π /4


AP / AQ = 0.16 = 16%
