Simplify the polynomial
2x^2 + 6x - 7x + 8 - 3x^2 + 1

2x^2 + 6x - 7x + 8 - 3x^2 + 1

Combine like terms:

2x^2 - 3x^2 = -x^2
6x - 7x = -x
8 + 1 = 9
