how would you find the surface area of a cylinder with 1.7m for the diameter, and 3m for the height? would you use the formula S.A = 2pi x r x h, or S.A = area of two congruent circles + area of rectangle?

Neither. The curved surface area is 2*pi*r*h (or pi*D*h), but you have to add to that the total area of the top and bottom, 2*(pi/4) D^2

thanks, but im pretty sure i said 2*pi*r*h , except a different way

ok, thanks. i also have another question. A fruit can has diameter 5.8cm and height 10.5cm. A plastic label wraps around the can. What is the area of the plastic label? Would the formula be S.A = L*W ?

your label is a rectangle with a length equal to the circumference of the circle
so area
= 2pi(2.9)*10.5
= ....
so area
= 2pi(2.9)*10.5
= ....
