Could tell me an experiment which a spectrophotometer would be useful, other than finding the absorbency of a solution?

Its one of the most useful devices for detecting illegal drugs. In some cases quantitative data may be obtained, also.

Qualitatively, the spectrum of, for example, amphetamins or methamphetamines on a sample match with that of a pure material. UV spectrophotometers are used for meth,(I think heroin and I think cocaine), IR spectrophotometers for LSD, etc.
