Wouldn't you just do this?

(48*4) + 36 = total surface area of base and all four sides?

Give the final result in cm2 terms.

Find:Lateral area of the pyramid

The lateral area is 192 because 48 times 4 equals 192. The 48 is the area of one lateral side and since it is a regular quadrilateral pyramid you multiply it by four.

The answer is 228. This is because of 48 *4=192. Then 192 + 36= 228. This is the correct answer for the surface area of the pyramid.
