the fence posts around a large pasture are 2.5m apart. a horse starts running west beside the fence. when the horse passes the fifth fence post, your second hand is on the 9.0 mark. when the horse passes the fourteenth fence post, the second hand is on 11.5 seconds. what is the horse’s velocity? 


I know the formula for velocity, and when I plug it in I get 1.

The answer isn't 1.
The posts are spaced 2.5 m apart so between the 5th and 15th post there are 9 spaces of 2.5 m each. 9*2.5 - 22.5 m.
distance = rate x time.
22.5 = rate x 2.5 seconds.
Solve for rate (velocity).
