In has three electrons in its outer shell (notice it is in group 13 and the 3 tells you that) so it will tend to lose those three electrons to form an ion, In+3.
Generally, but not always, atoms with three or fewer electrons in the outer shell tend to lose them. Atoms with 5 or more electrons in their outer shell tend to gain electrons (to make 8). Atoms with 4 tend to form covalent bonds.
