When nonrenewable (energy) sources run out, we need to use other sources, or make the equivalent fuels out of renewable sources (like making biodiesel or running cars on pure alcohol). Renewable sources are things we can grow, or not use up, such as solar, wind, tidal and geothermal power.

Nuclear energy from breeder reactors (which make more nuclear fuel than they consume) can also be considered a renewable source, but they tend to be expensive and risky because they make plutonium, a bomb material. There are only a few operating in the world today; most have been shut down.
