You are correct! A lunar eclipse can only occur during a full moon phase. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. This alignment can result in a partial or total eclipse of the Moon.
To determine the phase of the moon, you can either observe the Moon in the sky or use a moon phase calendar or an astronomy app. When the Moon appears as a complete circle, with the entire face illuminated, it is a full moon. This is when a lunar eclipse can potentially happen. So, your answer of a full moon is accurate.
