From p(-2)=5 and p(1)=14
we have two points (-2,5) and (1,14)
so,
3(-8) + a(4) -2b + 7 = 5
4a - 2b = 22 ----> 2a - b = 11
3(1) + a(1) + b(1) + 7 = 14 ---> a + b = 4
adding:
3a = 15
a = 5, then b = -1
a+b = 5-1 = 4
we have two points (-2,5) and (1,14)
so,
3(-8) + a(4) -2b + 7 = 5
4a - 2b = 22 ----> 2a - b = 11
3(1) + a(1) + b(1) + 7 = 14 ---> a + b = 4
adding:
3a = 15
a = 5, then b = -1
a+b = 5-1 = 4
