How do classroom management issues differ, depending on the subject matter? For instance, how can you manage an English lang. arts or social studies classroom differently than you can a mathematics or science classroom?

Math and science you can do experiments and the other two subjects you do not.

I am guessing on that.

Essentially you are right -- science and math students often perform experiments, while English and social studies students rarely do.

In science and math, the students spend a lot of time doing individual work or work in pairs. In English and social studies, a lot of time is spent listening and discussing ideas and facts. Keeping student interest is a challenge in these discussions.

However, when students are engaged in group work, teachers must be alert to possible horse play or unnecessary chit chat.

You've been in classrooms, what other challenges have you seen in various rooms?

I suggest you talk with a principal of a nearby elementary or middle school and ask permission to observe several classes for a few days.

Dawn, you waste a lot of time asking these questions. You need to do your own thinking and writing and get on with things.

If you have this much trouble responding to relatively simple questions, you really should re-think becoming a teacher -- of any age-group.
