The ratio of dogs to cats are 2 to 3 if there is 15 total animals how many cats are there

You could sole this super easily.
First add up the total amount of animals.

2+3=5

Then you turn it into fractions

Cats 3/5 Dogs 2/5

You then turn the denominators to 15. That means 5*x=15. x=3. You then multiply the fractions by 3 to get your answer.

number of cats ---- 3x

(notice 2x : 3x = 2 : 3 )

given: 2x + 3x = 15
5x = 15
x = 3

number of cats = 2x = 2(3) = 6
number of dogs = 3x = 3(3) = 9
