type 5x2^ as 5x^2 etc
so I will read that as, assuming the middle term in the first bracket is 11x
(5x^2 + 11x - 9)(-2x^2 -x + 17)
= -10x^4 - 5x^3 + 85x^2 - 22x^3 - 11x^2 + 187x + 18x^2 + 9x - 153
= -10x^4 - 27 x^3 + 92x^2 + 196x - 153

thank you...I understand and can follow your steps. My teacher did not have and middle term after the 11...I don't know if she forgot it but it is only 11...that is what confused me
