Chlorofluorocabons, such as Freon-12 and Freon-11, are the compounds of carbon, fluorine and chlorine that cause the destruction of the O3 in the ozone layer. They were once widely used refrigerants in air condtioning and refrigerating systems, and propellants in aerosol spray cans. They have been replaced by other compopunds in most applications.
