after 8 months, x = 8
y = 3(2^8)
= 3(256)
= 768

or:
3 6 12 24 48 96 192 384 768

now: 3
after 1 month -- 6 ---> 3(2^1)
after 2 months -- 12 --> 3(2^2)
...
after 8 months -- 768 = 3(2^8)
