Write an equation in slope-intercept form fo each situation. Assume a linear relationship between x and y.
In 2007 Tamara bank account balance was $500. In 2010, it was $1,400. Assuming she saves the same amount each year, in what year will her balance be 3,500?

If year 0 is 2007 then the y intercept is $500.
Since we know that 3 years after year 0 her balance was $1400, we determine that her balance increased by $900 ($1400-$500 = $900)
So the rate of increase is $300 per year ($900/3 =$300)
So the equation would be y=$300x + $500.
In trying to determine how many years (x) it will be for her bank account balance(y) to equal $3500 we input $3500 in for y in the equation and solve for x.
$3500 = $300x + $500
$3500 - $500 = $300x + $500 - $500
$3000/$300 = $300x/$300
x = 10 years
2007 + 10 years = 2017

2007 + 10 years = 2017
